Final exams, US Open await Cincinnati golfer Will Grimmer

Cincinnati is sending a teenager to Pinehurst Country Club for the U.S. Open, and the 17-year old is taking a track record with him.

Mariemont High School senior Will Grimmer qualified for the tournament by placing second at the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier after shooting 5-under 135 (70-65) at Springfield Country Club Tuesday afternoon.

Grimmer played No. 1 at Pinehurst a year ago and created some major buzz in the golf world by shooting 11-under 59 in the North and South Amateur Championship.

This year’s U.S. Open runs from June 12-15.

Understandably, the PGA Tour is happy to have Grimmer, an amateur, competing in this year’s tournament.

Grimmer, on the hand, has to worry about finishing high school before teeing off in one of the nation’s prestigious golf tournaments.

Grimmer has committed to play for Ohio State and is a three-time Cincinnati Hills League Golfer of the Year.
